We drove back to San Juan from Ponce then went to El Yunque national forest on the northeast side of the island, the only tropical rain forest in the US National Forest system. We started from a gorgeous water fall (La Mina fall) and hiked to the top of 3496 feet high El Yunque peak. The weather was misty and drizzly which became heavy fog on the very top, obscuring all views. much of the trail was paved with concrete which was good on the feet instead of the mud everywhere. We also found rain shelters periodically along the trail.
