The Mile-High Prairie

I flew to Denver to meet up with Dirk. I met Dirk's parents in the southern suburbs of Denver. This is a new part of town built on the endless prairie, where roads are long and everything is spacious. Every time I'm driving on a highway overpass, the uniform suburban office parks stretching to the horizon reminds me of cities built in video games. It's that unreal.

The house on the prairie has far ranging views of the horizon, jack rabbits can be seen just outside the window, and cars and junk can be parked just outside in the yard. Such is carefree living on the mile-high prairie.

We headed west to the Rockies the next day toward Aspen, where we plan to climb Capitol Peak, a 14,140 foot peak.
