Fuzhou, China

Very hilly and famed for having large amounts of shanties, Fuzhou is the capital of a poor mountainous region that has fiercely ambitious people, where women are known to work in quarries ferrying big rocks. This region is also known to grow olympic athletes. We bought "rou yan", a kind of won-ton skin my friend Wei recommended. It's made from jicama starch mixed with meat. Took a train to Hangzhou along the Minjiang River through the formidable Wuyi Mountains, whose name means "martial barbarians".
