Hong Kong, China
Thursday, November 14, 1996

Had a nice time eating out with my old friend Derek and his partner Albert, who is Chinese and a great cook. Derek moved here from Berkeley, CA several years ago. We dropped in unexpectedly and got to stay a night in their apartment. Took a night boat to Canton (Guangzhou).

The urban area of Hong Kong is small and easy to get around in. The density of built-up area is a bit oppressive (especially Kowloon) but the ocean and the green hills offer open views. Visited the Victoria Peak shopping mall, smack on the summit of Hong Kong Island, where we enjoyed great views of the skyscrapers. The weather was hot and muggy.
