Olympia, Greece
Thursday, June 3, 2004

We joined a cruise line-sponsored tour to Olympia after anchoring at the beautiful Katakolon port. The Greek countryside was full of light, with mostly olives and junipers giving the greyish-green hue combined with the white limestone soil. The dwellings were modern-looking and simple, giving a very relaxed feel, as if time had stood still. It reminds me of California's wine country. The Olympia site with its two rivers, pine grove, many ruined foundations and columns takes you to an ancient time. We saw the ancient stadium which will be used for shot put competition in the upcoming 1996 Athens Olympics.
