One of my fondest memories from childhood, not the least because I have an album of black-and-white photos taken on this trip of my friends. This was a relaxing school trip with my whole high school class during the summer break. We stayed in a resort in Xiwengzhuang for 4 nights. We took a boat ride, hiked to the dam of the reservoir, saw the "elephant-nose" hill (a natural bridge), and had a lot of fun swimming. We also took side trips to the Black Dragon Pools and the White Dragon Pools. The White Dragon Pools had some historic inscriptions, the Black Dragon Pools had a series of tarns up a steep canyon, where we had fun scrambling among the rocks.

During the trip I played with the camera my dad bought for me and took pictures of many friends, then developed with my classmate Zhang Dong at his place. He has photo-enlargement equipment at home, so we spent nights working on photos.
